An amazing atmosphere was present on the Nordmarka arena when Norwegian biathlon athlete Nils-Erik Ulset came in second for men’s sprint, standing, on Wednesday 18th.
Nils-Erik Ulset barely secured the second place just 1,1 seconds ahead of Canadian Mark Arendz. Both met their match in world cup leader Vladislav Lekomtcev from Russia. Ulset did not miss a single shot, yet it was not enough for first place - despite the fact that he gave it his all in the track.
– I'm pleased with the result, and especially with my second and third laps, says Ulset.
– When I heard that second place was within reach, I decided to go for it. I want to thank everyone who cheered me on, that really helped, he smiles before venturing into the crowd of eagerly awaiting autograph hunters.
Ulset and participating athletes from all nations continue to express their gratitude and enjoyment of the enthusiasm and attention from spectators and media.
– We're not used to this kind of attention, so it’s kind of a surprise, Ulset says.
– We mostly go about our business on our own. But I’ve decided to just enjoy the whole thing from here on out.
Women’s sprint, standing, resulted in a double Ukrainian victory: Oleksandra Kononova came in first, ahead of Ludmila Liashenko. Brittany Hudak secured third place for Canada.
